Deakin Devils offer both competitive and social cheerleading and dance to our members. We provide a friendly atmosphere for our athletes to gain, develop and improve upon their cheer and dance skills during weekly training sessions and competitions throughout the year. While dance and gymnastics experience is fantastic, our teams cater to a range of skill levels and we highly encourage beginners to apply! We invite males and females to contact us via our Facebook page or website for further information.

Coach: Bailey Hibbert & Tom Wohling

Competitive cheerleading is described by AASCF (Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation) as: "... what most people recognise as "Bring it On/ESPN cheerleading". It is a fast paced, dynamic sport that encompasses stunt, tumbling, tosses, and dance. Cheerleading requires dedication and a strong work ethic from the male and female athletes that participate."

This season we aim to have three teams in the following divisions: Recreational Team (Open Level 1NT), University Level 1/2NT, and Open Level 3NT.

TUMBLE

Coach: Fattah Samat

Tumbling involves learning skills such as forward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, round-offs and back handsprings. Our athletes are split into two groups based on skill level.

It is compulsory for all athletes on our Uni 1/2NT and Open 3NT teams to attend Tumble training. We also offer casual tumbling to all recreational cheer athletes, dance athletes, and anyone over the age of 18 who wants to come along and give it a go!

Pom is a fast paced jazz-like dance with pom poms that includes technical work. A Pom routine contains important characteristics such as strong pom technique, clean/precise and sharp motions, synchronization, visual effects and may incorporate Pom Skills (i.e. pom passes, jump sequences, leaps/turns, kick lines, etc.).

This season we aim to have two teams in the following divisions: Open Novice Pom and University Pom. Pom is open to anyone over the age of 18, however only current Deakin students may be placed on the university team. Non-students will be placed on the Novice team.

LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY

Coach: Dimi Sunderland

A Contemporary or Lyrical routine uses organic, pedestrian and/or traditional Modern or Ballet vocabulary as it complements the lyric and/or rhythmic value of the music. Emphasis is placed on control, sustained, expressive movement, body placement, contraction/release, use of breath, uniformity and communication.

Come and join our first Lyrical team here at the Deakin Devils. This team will be competing in the University division and is only open to current Deakin students.
